Mounting evidence in the past decade indicates that innate immunity mediates functions above and beyond first-line defense against infection. It is now appreciated that innate immune mechanisms are critically involved in the development of adaptive immunity and, moreover, the regulation of diverse physiological and homeostatic processes. The latter explains why deregulation of innate immunity may lead to pathological disorders that are not necessarily or directly related to host defense. This Volume compiles the latest advances in this rapidly evolving field as presented by eminent scientists at the 7th International Aegean Conference on Innate Immunity in Rhodes, Greece. It includes topics related to the biology and function of Toll-like and other pattern-recognition receptors, complement and its crosstalk with other physiological systems, inflammatory mechanisms and diseases, natural killer cells, and the cooperative interplay between innate and adaptive immune cells. This book is an excellent source of information for researchers and clinicians with interests in immunology, host-microbe interactions, and infectious and inflammatory diseases.

Case Studies in Immunology pdf
Description

Case Studies in Immunology, Fifth Edition, cites major topics of immunology as the background to a selection of real clinical cases that serve to reinforce and extend the basic science. This new edition vividly illustrates the importance of an understanding of immunology in diagnosis and therapy. As well as being a valuable review aid, Case Studies in Immunology introduces in a clinical setting the major common disorders of immunity, including hypersensitivity types I-IV and autoimmune disorders such as lupus and multiple sclerosis. It also describes and explains the consequences of some of the most important immune deficiencies. Each case history is preceded by basic scientific facts essential to understanding the immunology behind the disease or disorder. An end-of-case summary, questions, and discussion points finish each case. Case Studies in Immunology can be used as a stand-alone book, or as a clinical companion alongside Immunobiology, Sixth Edition and The Immune System, Secon Download Case Studies in Immunology for free via rapidshare, mediafire, 4shared, dropBox, uploading, fileserve

Vaccines for Pandemic Influenza (Current Topics in Microbiology and Immunology) pdf
Description

The recent outbreak of disease caused by a novel H1N1 virus has focused global attention on the threat of a new influenza pandemic. Recent years have also seen unprecedented outbreaks of avian influenza A viruses. In particular, highly pathogenic H5N1 viruses have not only resulted in widespread outbreaks in domestic poultry, but have been transmitted to humans resulting in numerous fatalities. The rapid expansion in the geographic distribution of these novel viruses raises the risk that such a virus could cause a global pandemic with high morbidity and mortality. An effective influenza vaccine represents the best approach to prevent and control such an emerging pandemic. However, current influenza vaccines are directed at existing seasonal influenza viruses, which have limited antigenic relationships to the newly emerging virus strains. Concerns about pandemic preparedness have greatly stimulated research activities to develop effective vaccines for pandemic influenza viruses, and t Download Vaccines for Pandemic Influenza (Current Topics in Microbiology and Immunology) for free via rapidshare, mediafire, 4shared, dropBox, uploading, fileserve
