Gender Justice and the Health Care System (Health Care Policy in the United States) pdf
Description

This study explores the gendered nature of U.S. health care policy and recent debates over health care reform. The author develops a philosophical framework of gender justice, and evaluates current health care policies in terms of this framework. An exploration of issues in women's health, including health care delivery, insurance availability, and research into health problems affecting women, reveals that current health care policies are deeply flawed. The book also examines recent policy changes at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) designed to ensure the inclusion of women in medical research and drug trials. The gender justice analytic framework is also used to evaluate ideas for reforming the health care system, including universal coverage, managed care enrollment, reorganization of Medicaid, and the guarantee of a basic benefits package. Gender, Race, Class, and Health examines relationships between economic structures, race, culture, and gender, and their combined influence on health. The authors systematically apply social and behavioral science to inspect how these dimensions intersect to influence health and health care in the United States. This examination brings into sharp focus the potential for influencing policy to improve health through a more complete understanding of the structural nature of race, gender, and class disparities in health. Building Healthy Communities through Medical-Religious Partnerships (Gender Relations in the Americ) pdf
Description

Because health care works best when patients assume greater responsibility for their own health, community outreach and patient education have taken on increased importance. Building Healthy Communities through Medical-Religious Partnerships describes an innovative approach to the development of community-based health education and patient advocacy programs targeted at the prevention and management of disease. Partnerships between health systems and religious congregations, the authors show, can be remarkably successful at bringing appropriate care to people who are often difficult to serve. The book offers valuable guidance for religious and medical leaders interested in developing programs in their congregations and communities. It includes practical and accessible information for establishing health education programs, identifies additional resources that can be obtained from local and national organizations, and discusses a range of medical topics. It also outlines how to train vo Download Building Healthy Communities through Medical-Religious Partnerships (Gender Relations in the Americ) for free via rapidshare, mediafire, 4shared, dropBox, uploading, fileserve

World Development Report 2012 pdf
Description

The WDR 2012: Gender Equality and Development will focus on the evolution of gender equality across the world in the context of the development process. The report will consider gender equality as a core development goal in itself, and will argue that gender equality matters for the pace of development. Improvements in gender equality can generate gains in economic efficiency and improvements in other development outcomes. And gender equality has consequences for the quality and representativeness of the institutions a society develops. For key dimensions of gender equality, the report will show that although many women around the world still continue to struggle with gender-based disadvantages, much has changed for the better and at a more rapid pace than ever before. But the report will also show that progress needs to be expanded, protected and deepened. In order to understand why progress has varied across dimensions of gender equality and between countries, the report will look at Download World Development Report 2012 for free via rapidshare, mediafire, 4shared, dropBox, uploading, fileserve

Female Patients in Early Modern Britain pdf
Description

This investigation contributes to the existing scholarship on women and medicine in early modern Britain by examining the diagnosis and treatment of female patients by male professional medical practitioners from 1590 to 1740. In order to obtain a clearer understanding of female illness and medicine during this period, this study examines ailments that were specific and unique to female patients as well as illnesses and conditions that afflicted both female and male patients. Through a qualitative and quantitative analysis of practitioners' records and patients' writings - such as casebooks, diaries and letters - an emphasis is placed on medical practice. Despite the prevalence of females amongst many physicians' casebooks and the existence of sex-based differences in the consultations, diagnoses and treatments of patients, there is no evidence to indicate that either the health or the medical care of females was distinctly disadvantaged by the actions of male practitioners.
