Prevention of Coronary Heart Disease pdf
Description

The Seven Countries Study was the first to establish credible data on incidence and death rates of CHD in contrasting cultures. The study documented population differences in average levels and distributions of coronary risk factors. It also demonstrated large differences in composition of the diet in otherwise similar, stable, rural agricultural or pastoral populations. Diet and cigarette smoking explained most of the differences in population CHD rates, while changes in serum cholesterol and blood pressure levels between entry and 25-year follow-up examinations explained much of the change in CHD death rates. Results of the Seven Countries Study were crucial to the concept of population causes, that is, the mass phenomena involved in the genesis of coronary heart disease, and which influence widespread individual and species susceptibility. Where environments are unfavourable one finds maximal exhibition of coronary risk and a heavy population disease burden. Where favourable, indiv Download Prevention of Coronary Heart Disease for free via rapidshare, mediafire, 4shared, dropBox, uploading, fileserve

Trade and Public Health pdf
Description

Non-communicable diseases, associated with risk factors such as tobacco consumption, poor diet, and alcohol use, represent a growing health burden around the world. The seriousness of non-communicable diseases is reflected in the adoption of international instruments such as the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control; the WHO Global Strategy on Diet, Physical Activity and Health; and the WHO Global Strategy to Reduce the Harmful Use of Alcohol. In line with these instruments, states are beginning to use measures such as taxes, restrictions on marketing, product regulation, and labeling measures for public health purposes. This book examines the extent to which the law of the World Trade Organization restricts domestic implementation of these types of measures. The relationship between international health instruments and the WTO Agreement is examined, as are the WTO covered agreements themselves. Sickly Sweet pdf
Description

Is there evidence for addiction to food? How strong is this evidence? If so, what element of food makes it addictive? Over the last forty years, our waistlines have continued to expand in nearly all countries, despite attempts to slim populations. Does this information shed any light on the seemingly insoluble obesity epidemic? This book explores a radical rethink in what has caused the global obesity epidemic. A consideration of which types of food are most likely to be responsible is presented, as well as an understanding of how human motivation and addiction may help us understand why people gain weight. Parallels with a range of other addiction syndromes to help uncover the elusive key to unlocking the obesity epidemic are considered.
