A Crisis Call for New Preventive Medicine pdf
Description

Of the ten most common causes of death in industrialized countries, at least two-thirds are lifestyle related (i.e. poor nutrition, physical inactivity, overweight/obesity, cigarette smoking, alcohol/drug abuse and the environment, among others). The rapidly expanding elder population will put further demands on health care systems already burdened by the elderly and the poor. However, increasing age need not be associated with expanding health care costs if people improve their lifestyles. Healthier lifestyles would significantly reduce the incidence of coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, peripheral vascular disease, cataract and macular degeneration, among others. Moreover, they would significantly increase life expectancy and the quality of life. This invaluable book reviews the scientific medical evidence for the benefits of healthy lifestyles on ageing, numerous diseases/disorders, and reduction of medical costs. Lifestyle Medicine pdf
Description

"Up to 70% of all visits to a doctor are now thought to have a predominantly lifestyle-based cause." 5 STAR DOODY'S REVIEW!
". It has a refreshingly broad scope, as it addresses many issues rather than the usual, single-issue book on lifestyles....This is an outstanding book, easy to read, with a very broad scope, and full of useful approaches to discuss lifestyle problems with patients. This is a tremendous addition to every clinician's armamentarium."--Doody's Review Service "This comprehensive yet highly readable text summarizes the theoretical framework behind lifestyle medicine and provides practical guidance for GPs and allied health professionals to implement preventative 'three A' (Assess, Advise, Arrange) interventions in brief clinical consultations....this excellent resource offers strategies that may provide health care teams with practical approaches that are, for the most part, realistic to implement in primary care settings."--American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine L Download Lifestyle Medicine for free via rapidshare, mediafire, 4shared, dropBox, uploading, fileserve

Prevention of Coronary Heart Disease pdf
Description

The Seven Countries Study was the first to establish credible data on incidence and death rates of CHD in contrasting cultures. The study documented population differences in average levels and distributions of coronary risk factors. It also demonstrated large differences in composition of the diet in otherwise similar, stable, rural agricultural or pastoral populations. Diet and cigarette smoking explained most of the differences in population CHD rates, while changes in serum cholesterol and blood pressure levels between entry and 25-year follow-up examinations explained much of the change in CHD death rates. Results of the Seven Countries Study were crucial to the concept of population causes, that is, the mass phenomena involved in the genesis of coronary heart disease, and which influence widespread individual and species susceptibility. Where environments are unfavourable one finds maximal exhibition of coronary risk and a heavy population disease burden. Where favourable, indiv Download Prevention of Coronary Heart Disease for free via rapidshare, mediafire, 4shared, dropBox, uploading, fileserve
