Learning Lessons pdf
Description

This is a book about the policy process. It discusses the considerations advisers have in mind as they develop and select policy alternatives, the ways each of us might want to think about making decisions, and the lessons we should remember in order to minimize avoidable errors. In writing about his experiences in government, the classroom, and private life, Fein offers insights that apply to people responsible for decisions in many kinds of institutions, at all levels of responsibility. His anecdotes and the situations he describes are drawn from over fifty years of experience in the policy arena. They are not intended to represent either a rounded theory about public administration or a comprehensive treatment of important components of political science. Like most people in the policy arena, Fein came to that work from another discipline-in his case economics. His experience of "finding his own way" through action and experience rather than through application of theory might app Download Learning Lessons for free via rapidshare, mediafire, 4shared, dropBox, uploading, fileserve

Economics and Mental Health pdf
Description

How do health insurance regulations affect the care of persons with mental illness? And how do such persons, in turn, affect the economy through lost productivity, reduced labor supply, and deviant behavior at the workplace? In "Economics and Mental Health", Richard G. Frank and Willard G. Manning, Jr., bring together a distinguished group of health care economists to explore the new and rapidly growing field of mental health economics. The authors begin by discussing the issue of care for severely mentally ill patients as it is influenced by differing modes of reimbursement. They then offer labor market analyses that shed light on the economic costs of mental illness. They analyze the interaction of health insurance and the demand for mental health care. And they present case studies that outline experimental systems of delivering health care. Health Economics in Development (Health, Nutrition, and Population Series) pdf
Description

Economists and public health specialists do not always understand one another, to the detriment of how health systems function. This collection of papers, spanning over 20 years of thinking and writing, aims to bring these disciplines closer together, through exploration of basic concepts, development of ways to think about such ideas as equity, efficiency, cost-effectiveness and the best way to finance health care, and empirical analyses of several interventions against specific diseases or health risks. 'Health Economics in Development' explains basic concepts, for the benefit of non-economists working in public health and further develops some of those concepts to show how they can be applied to real situations. These include how the burden of ill health is measured, how economic thinking helps judge the proper roles of the state and the market in health, ways to understand and measure equity, and the characteristics of sound and equitable financing for health. Health Economics pdf
Description

This book introduces students to the growing research field of health economics. Rather than offer details about health systems around the world without providing a theoretical context, Health Economics combines economic concepts with empirical evidence to enhance readers' economic understanding of how health care institutions and markets function. It views the subject in both microeconomic and macroeconomic terms, moving from the individual and firm level to the market level to a macroeconomic view of the role of health and health care within the economy as a whole. The book includes discussion of recent empirical evidence on the U.S. health system and can be used for an undergraduate course on U.S. health economics. Pharmaceutical Economics and Policy pdf
Description

The pharmaceutical industry is praised as a leader in high technology innovation and the creator of products that increase both longevity and quality of life for people throughout the world. Yet the industry is also reviled for its marketing and pricing practices and even its research and development priorities. Its competitive nature is undergoing change today, with the entry of new firms and products increasing competition at the same time that mergers reduce it.
This book employs the tools of economic analysis to explore the conflicting priorities and aims of the pharmaceutical industry, from both a US and worldwide perspective. Schweitzer discusses the industry both as a manufacturer of products and as a major player in the making of health-care decisions. The author also analyzes the reasons and results of the shift in the locus of demand for pharmaceuticals. Presently the most important factor in formulating the future direction of pharmaceutical research are the demands of Download Pharmaceutical Economics and Policy for free via rapidshare, mediafire, 4shared, dropBox, uploading, fileserve

Aging Nation pdf
Description

With the impending retirement of some 76 million baby boomers in a period of huge government deficits, public anxiety about the social and economic health of an aging nation is widespread. The policy debates are contentious—from deciding who should receive limited subsidized housing and medical services to the ongoing battle over "saving" Social Security and other entitlement programs. Some policy makers and pundits forecast disaster: elderly people will be put out to pasture with inadequate health care and financial resources, and a crumbling social welfare infrastructure will implode under the strain of intergenerational conflict. In Aging Nation, renowned experts James H. Schulz and Robert H. Binstock agree that there is considerable cause for concern but insist that a demographic tsunami is not inevitable. Drawing from the most current data, the authors provide an in-depth analysis of the nation's evolving private and public policies on retirement, faltering employer pensions, h Download Aging Nation for free via rapidshare, mediafire, 4shared, dropBox, uploading, fileserve

From the supplier: Rural health care policies are an upcoming area of interest for health professionals such as executive nurses. This is due to economic forces such as telecommunications and urban health systems extending to serve rural populations. Also, Medicare reform will involve rural aspects, such as the payment caps of adjusted average per capita cost.

Description:
This paper investigates the relationship between the macroeconomy and health insurance coverage for non-elderly Americans. We find that, for men, state unemployment rate is positively correlated with the probability of health insurance coverage in general and through an employer in particular, and that these correlations are only partly explained by changes in employment status. In contrast, the insurance coverage of women and children appears to be insulated from fluctuations in the unemployment rate by public health insurance programs like Medicaid and State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). We estimate that 984,000 Americans, nearly all of whom were adult men, lost health insurance due to Download Health insurance coverage and the macroeconomy [An article from for free via rapidshare, mediafire, 4shared, dropBox, uploading, fileserve
