Medicine Man pdf
Description

The name Henry Solomon Wellcome (1853-1936) is well known as a giant in the world of pharmaceuticals, but most people know very little about his other philanthropic interests. This book brings to our attention the Wellcome museum that he set up, initially a collection of curios for his amusement and to aid students in their medical research. Packed full of photographs, these seven essays approach different aspects of the museum and its collection including its priceless and its banal artefacts. Ghislaine Lawrence looks at the development of the Museum for the Science of History, Francis Knight explores the Wellcome library, the archaeological interests of Wellcome are discussed by Chris Gosden where as John Mack turns his attention to medicine and anthropology. The final two essays look at Wellcome's contribution to modern medicine (John Pickstone) and the human remains within his collection (Ruth Richardson). The book accompanies an exhibition at the British Museum. Download Medicine Man for free via rapidshare, mediafire, 4shared, dropBox, uploading, fileserve

Health Care's Forgotten Majority pdf
Description

Discussion regarding health care in the United States usually centers around the doctors and insurance companies. This book deals with one group that is largely overlooked: nurses. As an example of white collar workforce, nurses are segmented by class. Amongst this group is a class-conscious working class, a status-conscious nursing management and a class- and status-conscious mid-level. This book focuses on nurses' positions in the labor process and their reaction to that labor process, their choice of collective strategy (trade unionism, professional unionism, or professionalization), and why they choose these roles. Forgotten People, Forgotten Diseases pdf
Description

Some of the worst tropical diseases in the world have too long been ignored. Parasitic and bacterial diseases such as hookworm, snail fever, river blindness, guinea worm, elephantiasis, sleeping sickness, and leprosy are the most common infections of third-world populations. These neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) represent one of the most important reasons why populations living in Africa, Asia, and Central and South America remain caught in a vicious cycle of poverty, stigma, and despair.

With a lifetime devoted to the subject of tropical diseases, the well-known expert Dr. Peter Hotez provides a comprehensive view of these forgotten diseases. Written in accessible, straightforward language, Forgotten People, Forgotten Diseases thoroughly explains the most significant NTDs, including social and economic aspects, public health concerns, and preventative measures.

This volume will raise public awareness about these forgotten diseases and their enormous phy Download Forgotten People, Forgotten Diseases for free via rapidshare, mediafire, 4shared, dropBox, uploading, fileserve

Forgotten Families pdf
Description

In the last half-century, radical changes have rippled through the workplace and the home from Boston to Mumbai. In the face of rapid globalization, these changes affect us all, and we can no longer confine ourselves to addressing working and social conditions within our own borders without simultaneously addressing them on a global scale. Based on over a thousand in-depth interviews and survey data from more than 55,000 families spanning five continents, Jody Heymann's Forgotten Families presents the first truly global account of how the changing conditions of work affect us all. Rich in individual stories and deeply human, Forgotten Families proposes innovative and imaginative ideas for solving the problems of the truly belabored together as a global community.
