Communication And The Care Of People With Dementia pdf
Description

This book argues that communication is at the heart of all approaches to dementia care, and is an in-depth exploration of ways of establishing and developing communication with people with dementia. It examines both the nature of dementia as a condition and the subjective experience of those affected. The authors consider in detail how communication between people with dementia and those who care for them changes, and how it can be maintained and enhanced. They include a significant amount of material quoted from people with dementia, and suggest ways of interpreting their words and actions. We learn about what it might be like to have dementia, and what sort of help is needed by people in this situation. Throughout the book the authors address the ethical issues and the implications for practice.

"The combination of creativity and critical analysis which the joint authors as poet and psychologist bring to this book is especially productive...The interweaving of substantial prac Download Communication And The Care Of People With Dementia for free via rapidshare, mediafire, 4shared, dropBox, uploading, fileserve

Caring for People with Chronic Conditions pdf
Description

"Overall, the book walks a delicate balance between evidence and advocacy regarding the care of people with chronic conditions. Nolte and McKee conclude the volume with the following: 'A first step is to recognize that something must be done. A second, which we hope will be facilitated by the evidence provided in this book, is to realize that something actually can be done, and that they can do it (p. 240)'. The overarching desire to match the need for evidence with the reality that advocates (including policy-makers) need a reasoned voice makes the book well suited to health policy deliberations."
International Journal of Integrated Care The complex nature of many chronic diseases, which affect people many different ways, requires a multifaceted response that will meet the needs of the individual patient. Yet while everyone agrees that the traditional relationship between an individual patient and a single doctor is inappropriate, there is much less agreement about what should rep Download Caring for People with Chronic Conditions for free via rapidshare, mediafire, 4shared, dropBox, uploading, fileserve

Toward the Healthy City pdf
Description

In distressed urban neighborhoods where residential segregation concentrates poverty, liquor stores outnumber supermarkets, toxic sites are next to playgrounds, and more money is spent on prisons than schools, residents also suffer disproportionately from disease and premature death. Recognizing that city environments and the planning processes that shape them are powerful determinants of population health, urban planners today are beginning to take on the added challenge of revitalizing neglected urban neighborhoods in ways that improve health and promote greater equity. In Toward the Healthy City, Jason Corburn argues that city planning must return to its roots in public health and social justice. The Health of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender People pdf
Description

At a time when lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals--often referred to under the umbrella acronym LGBT--are becoming more visible in society and more socially acknowledged, clinicians and researchers are faced with incomplete information about their health status. While LGBT populations often are combined as a single entity for research and advocacy purposes, each is a distinct population group with its own specific health needs. Furthermore, the experiences of LGBT individuals are not uniform and are shaped by factors of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, geographical location, and age, any of which can have an effect on health-related concerns and needs.

The Health of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender People assesses the state of science on the health status of LGBT populations, identifies research gaps and opportunities, and outlines a research agenda for the National Institute of Health. The report examines the health status of these populations in Download The Health of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender People for free via rapidshare, mediafire, 4shared, dropBox, uploading, fileserve

The Global HIV Epidemics among People Who Inject Drugs (Directions in Development) pdf
Description

People who inject drugs (PWID) are at higher risk for acquiring HIV infection than the general population in many countries. Injecting drug use is present in 148 countries including a wide array of low and middle income countries where HIV incidence is growing in recent years - even as it declines elsewhere. This study was undertaken as the third of a series of three economic analyses examining the global epidemics of HIV/AIDS in vulnerable populations. Informed by a critical review of epidemiological evidence and the most recent analyses of intervention efficacy, this work modeled the costs and impact of addressing the needs of PWID at scale in various epidemic contexts. These particular research questions were addressed: • What are the modeled epidemic impact and costs of implementing a minimum adaptable package of evidence-based and human rights affirming services for prevention, treatment, and care of HIV/AIDS in PWID in globally representative epidemic scenarios? • What are th Download The Global HIV Epidemics among People Who Inject Drugs (Directions in Development) for free via rapidshare, mediafire, 4shared, dropBox, uploading, fileserve

Description

In December 1992 Christopher Clunis stabbed Jonathan Zito, a complete stranger, to death on Finsbury Park underground station in an unprovoked attack. Clunis was a diagnosed schizophrenic. As a result an inquiry into Clunis’s treatment and care was established - leading to the Ritchie report.

This is probably the most famous and far reaching of the recent inquiries caught the public attention in its vivid descriptions of the breakdown in care which led to the attack. However both before that report and certainly since its publication, there have been a series of other such inquiries. The Zito Trust, set up after the death of Jonathan Zito, has published "Learning the Lessons" - a comprehensive and complete record of recent inquiries listing over six hundred conclusions and recommendations. These reports are disturbing enough, but for those concerned about substance misuse they make even more shocking reading - of the six hundred recommendations listed only four relate to Download The Unlearned Lesson for free via rapidshare, mediafire, 4shared, dropBox, uploading, fileserve

Exposure of the American People to Iodine-131 from Nevada Nuclear-Bomb Tests pdf
Description

In 1997, after more than a decade of research, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) released a report which provided their assessment of radiation exposures that Americans may have received from radioactive iodine released from the atomic bomb tests conducted in Nevada during the 1950s and early 1960s. This book provides an evaluation of the soundness of the methodology used by the NCI study to estimate: past radiation doses; possible health consequences of exposure to iodine-131; implications for clinical practice; and possible public health strategies - such as systematic screening for thyroid cancer - to respond to the exposures. In addition, the book provides an evaluation of the NCI estimates of the number of thyroid cancers that might result from the nuclear testing program and provides guidance on approaches the U.S. government might use to communicate with the public about Iodine-131 exposures and health risks.
