Breast Cancer and the Environment pdf
Description

Breast cancer remains the most common invasive cancer among women. The primary patients of breast cancer are adult women who are approaching or have reached menopause; 90 percent of new cases in U.S. women in 2009 were diagnosed at age 45 or older. Growing knowledge of the complexity of breast cancer stimulated a transition in breast cancer research toward elucidating how external factors may influence the etiology of breast cancer. Breast Cancer and the Environment reviews the current evidence on a selection of environmental risk factors for breast cancer, considers gene-environment interactions in breast cancer, and explores evidence-based actions that might reduce the risk of breast cancer. The book also recommends further integrative research into the elements of the biology of breast development and carcinogenesis, including the influence of exposure to a variety of environmental factors during potential windows of susceptibility during the full life course, potential intervention Download Breast Cancer and the Environment for free via rapidshare, mediafire, 4shared, dropBox, uploading, fileserve

Real Estate Issues in the Health Care Industry pdf
Description

What will the health care organization look like in the post-health care reform era, and how will its real estate assets help or hinder the transition? Real Estate Issues in the Health Care Industry attempts to answer such questions. It is the result of a conference, jointly sponsored by the University of Southern California and the law firm of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips. In a methodical fashion, the book discusses how to conduct an audit of health care facilities, beginning with an examination of the importance of real estate to health care organizations. This includes a review of the changes in the health care delivery system and in the economy over the past decade. The contributors propose several components to the audit of real estate assets, including: taking an inventory of assets and liabilities; evaluating alternatives for the business; and using benchmarks to project revenues and expenses. Furthermore, the book offers an analysis of capital formation in the 199 Download Real Estate Issues in the Health Care Industry for free via rapidshare, mediafire, 4shared, dropBox, uploading, fileserve

Exposure of the American People to Iodine-131 from Nevada Nuclear-Bomb Tests pdf
Description

In 1997, after more than a decade of research, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) released a report which provided their assessment of radiation exposures that Americans may have received from radioactive iodine released from the atomic bomb tests conducted in Nevada during the 1950s and early 1960s. This book provides an evaluation of the soundness of the methodology used by the NCI study to estimate: past radiation doses; possible health consequences of exposure to iodine-131; implications for clinical practice; and possible public health strategies - such as systematic screening for thyroid cancer - to respond to the exposures. In addition, the book provides an evaluation of the NCI estimates of the number of thyroid cancers that might result from the nuclear testing program and provides guidance on approaches the U.S. government might use to communicate with the public about Iodine-131 exposures and health risks. The Course of Recognition (Institute for Human Sciences Vienna Lecture Series) pdf
Description

Recognition, though it figures profoundly in our understanding of objects and persons, identity and ideas, has never before been the subject of a single, sustained philosophical inquiry. This work, by one of contemporary philosophy's most distinguished voices, pursues recognition through its various philosophical guises and meanings--and, through the "course of recognition," seeks to develop nothing less than a proper hermeneutics of mutual recognition. Originally delivered as lectures at the Institute for the Human Sciences at Vienna, the essays collected here consider recognition in three of its forms. The first chapter, focusing on knowledge of objects, points to the role of recognition in modern epistemology; the second, concerned with what might be called the recognition of responsibility, traces the understanding of agency and moral responsibility from the ancients up to the present day; and the third takes up the problem of recognition and identity, which extends from Hegel's Download The Course of Recognition (Institute for Human Sciences Vienna Lecture Series) for free via rapidshare, mediafire, 4shared, dropBox, uploading, fileserve

Living Well with Chronic Illness pdf
Description

In the United States, chronic diseases currently account for 70 percent of all deaths, and close to 48 million Americans report a disability related to a chronic condition. Today, about one in four Americans have multiple diseases and the prevalence and burden of chronic disease in the elderly and racial/ethnic minorities are notably disproportionate. Chronic disease has now emerged as a major public health problem and it threatens not only population health, but our social and economic welfare. Living Well with Chronic Disease identifies the population-based public health actions that can help reduce disability and improve functioning and quality of life among individuals who are at risk of developing a chronic disease and those with one or more diseases. The book recommends that all major federally funded programmatic and research initiatives in health include an evaluation on health-related quality of life and functional status. Also, the book recommends increasing support for imple Download Living Well with Chronic Illness for free via rapidshare, mediafire, 4shared, dropBox, uploading, fileserve
